3rd Wave Ska (started 1980s)
In the 1980s, bands influenced by the 2 Tone ska revival in the United States and other countries ushered in ska's third wave of popularity. The new style was characterized by brass instruments, a heavily-accented offbeat, and sometimes a faster tempo. This revival included post-punk ska bands such as Fishbone and The Uptones on the West Coast, and The Toasters and Mighty Mighty Bosstones on the East Coast. Though the style began leaning more towards Ska Punk and even Ska-core, several third wave ska bands played in a more traditional 1960s-influenced style.
